Objectives of this document
The European DataGrid project comes on the final stage. The moving of the software release from the version 1.4 to 2 corresponds to a major evolution of the code. This version of the middleware software provides the last evolution of the tools the DataGrid project.
This release will be deployed on a testbed and evaluated during the last months of the project.
This document provides information to potential users, site administrators and application developers about the facilities available in the last DataGrid release.
The DataGrid project spans three years, from 2001 to 2003 and the end of this project corresponds to the production of the release 2.1 of the software.
The project is divided in twelve Work Packages (WP): WP1 to WP5 which provide the DataGrid Middleware; WP6 is in charge of the testbed; WP7 oversees the network infrastructure; three packages for the scientific application communities HEP: WP8, Earth Observation: WP9, Biology: WP10; and two packages for dissemination (WP11) and management (WP12).
This document is the starting point for those people who wish to use, deploy or build on the software produced by the European DataGrid project.
The main documentation about the final version of the DataGrid testbed are referenced from this document and should allow the installation and administration of a grid node, the usability of the grid functionality and the development of specific applications.
WP 6 documentation is listed first since it corresponds to the initial point to install, configure and use a grid node.

release, minor or major, the software is provided by component and can be found
at this location: http://DataGrid.in2p3.fr/autobuild/rh6.2/rpmlist/
For each work package the information is divided into three parts:
· The first part contains the information about the installation and the configuration of the components produced by the work package. The site administrators, who will deploy the software on their sites, should read this section.
· The second part concerns the users of the testbed and explains its operation. This is the user guide document.
·
The last part is the developer guide
and gives some information to people who wish to build applications on the
testbed.

The WP6 documentation represents the overall user and installation guide for the testbed. It provides a point of entry for newcomers before exploring the more detailed documents provided by the other work packages.
